Mumbai. Israeli screenwriter, author and filmmaker Nadav Lapid sparked controversy during the 53rd International Film Festival by calling Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘The Kashmir Files’ vulgar propaganda. After this statement of his, a fierce controversy broke out on social media. People from Bollywood to politics are strongly condemning his statement. Now amid growing controversy, Nadav Lapid clarified and revealed why he called ‘The Kashmir Files’ as ‘obscene’.

Nadav Lapid clarified his statement after being surrounded by controversy all around. He mentioned that he found it paramount to speak about it. He explained that he was surprised by the film justifying Indian policy in Kashmir. He said that he found “fascist features” in this film. Nadav disclosed that this film is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in the 90s, that he would not be surprised if such films are made in Israel as well. Please tell that Nadav said all these things while talking to ‘Ynet’ news channel.

It was not easy to make a political statement like this
He further admitted that it was not easy to speak and make political statements in this manner. According to the report, Navad said, ‘I knew that this was an event which is very much related to the country, and everyone stands there and praises the government. It is not an easy situation, because you are a guest, I am the chairman of the jury here, you are treated very well.

‘Somebody needs to speak’
Nadav Lapid further completed his talk and thanked those people who listened to him while sitting in the hall of IFFI. According to the report, Nadav said, ‘It was a hall with thousands of people and everyone was excited to see the local stars and for the government. Nadav believes that some countries are fast losing the ability to speak their mind or speak the truth, so someone needs to speak up. When he saw the film, he couldn’t help but imagine it’s Israeli counterpart. That’s why he felt he had to do it because he comes from a place that is yet to improve on these issues.

The film is based on the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits.
