Sandhya Mukherjee, a legendary Bengali vocalist, passed away on February 15th. She was 90 years old. Sandhya Mukherjee had been sick for several days. According to hospital reports, the legendary singer experienced a catastrophic heart arrest today and died despite significant attempts to resuscitate her.
Sandhya Mukherjee was admitted to the hospital in the last week of January after developing problems from the Covid-19 infection.Sandhya Mukherjee made headlines recently after declining the Padma Shri award. The honours were presented on Republic Day, January 26. Soumi Sengupta, the famous playback singer’s daughter, said her mother turned down the honour because “conferring a Padma Shri to a legend like her at the age of 90 is terribly insulting.”

For Jay Jayanti, the Bengali version of the Hollywood classic Sound of Music, she received the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1970.
