Noida: In a shocking incident, a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by her grandmother’s lover. The accused, who hails from Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh has been arrested on Monday from Noida Sector 88.
According to police, 55-year-old Hemant Singh considered the minor an “obstacle” to his marriage with the woman who was the grandmother of the victim.
Police further said Singh had a criminal background and that he used to frequently abuse the child, believing she was a hurdle in his relationship with her grandmother.
Police had a suspicion of him. They then interrogated Singh who admitted to his crime, “That day, the suspect took the child to a secluded location, assaulted and killed her,” Vrinda Shukla, Deputy Commissioner of police (women’s safety), Gautam Budh Nagar said.
The accused was produced in court and has been sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, the girl’s grandmother was detained for questioning.
Police during investigation found out that Singh used to frequently visit the child’s house. After being arrested, he was questioned where he confessed that he was in a relationship with the victim’s grandmother and wanted to marry her.
“The woman, however, had told Singh that she needed to take care of the child,” DCP said.
The DCP further said, on December 24, the woman lodged a complaint where she said the child had gone missing while playing outside their house in Bisrakh block. A case under PIC Section 363 (abduction) was registered at Phase 2 police station, she added.
On December 28, the body of the minor was found a mere 100 meters from her home in an under-construction building. Police said there were bruises and injury marks on several parts of the body of the child. A medical examination confirmed that she was sexually assaulted before being murdered.
Police had then added IPC Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offense), 376-AB (punishment for rape of woman under 12 years of age), 377 (unnatural offenses) of IPC, and sections 5 and 6 of POCSO Act.
