The trouble for Suriya’s ‘Jai Bhim’, which was released last year, is still not taking its name to end. The film, which will be released on Amazon Prime on November 2, 2021, has once again faced legal trouble. Chennai Police has recently registered an FIR against director TJ Gnanavel as well as producer Jyothika and her husband Suriya for stealing the story of the film. According to reports, a person had filed a complaint under the Copyright Act.
Jai Bhim’s team accused of stealing the story
According to media reports, an FIR has been registered against the director of the film ‘Jai Bheem’ TJ Gyanvel and the production house 2D Entertainment under 63(A) Copyright Act at Shastri Nagar Police Station in Chennai. V Kulanjiappan has filed this case against the film (Jai Bhim), because the character related to him was seen in the film. In the complaint, the makers have been accused that the makers of Jai Bhim stole his story, while they promised that they would give him royalty in return for his story but later got nothing.
FIR was registered on Jai Bhim earlier also
The complainant claimed that in the year 2019, the director had met him and asked him to pay Rs 50 lakh as royalty and share of profits. However, when the film became a hit and people liked it, the makers did not give them anything. It is worth noting that earlier the courtroom drama had come into controversy for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Vanniyar community. After months of legal struggle, the Madras High Court finally quashed the case registered against Jai Bhim star Suriya, producer Jyothika and director TJ Gyanvel just a few days back.
Jai Bhim tells the true story
In a legal notice received by the film’s team, it was asked to remove certain scenes and even demanded a compensation of Rs 5 crore. Jai Bheem tells the story of discrimination against a marginalized community in Tamil Nadu. The story is believed to be inspired by a true incident in 1993 when some tribal people were arrested and allegedly tortured by the police. Suriya is seen in the role of Advocate Chandru, who fights her case in the courtroom and helps her get free. Apart from Suriya, Lijomol Jose, Manikandan, Rajisha Vijayan, Prakash Raj and Rao Ramesh also play important roles in the film.
