Abhishek Bachchan on being selected to unfurl the national flag at IFFM: ‘I’m looking forward to celebrating’

India To commemorate 75 years of independence, actor Abhishek Bachchan and former cricketer Kapil Dev will unfurl the tricolor in Melbourne, Australia on August 13. Both of them will be keynote speakers at the Indian Film Festival Melbourne. Every year a representative team of Indian cinema hoists the tricolor in this function. This time, Abhishek Bachchan and Kapil Dev have been roped in for the task.

According to the media report, on being selected to hoist the national flag at IFFM, Abhishek Bachchan said, ‘It is a great honor to be a part of the 75th year celebrations of Indian Independence in Melbourne. It is a matter of pride for me to hoist the national flag. It is a symbol of friendship between Australia and India.

He further said, ‘Sharing the stage with Kapil sir is important for me and this event also symbolizes the coming together of cinema and cricket. Two things that often unite us Indians. I look forward to celebrating the spirit of India, Indians and our country present among hundreds of people.

On being a part of the festival, Kapil Dev had earlier said, “It is a deep emotional connection for both cinema and sports and when they come together, it is a wonderful experience.” The film festival, which will run from August 12-20, was not celebrated for the last two years due to the pandemic.

The perfect combination of cinema and cricket
Abhishek Bachchan has a huge fan base in Australia. Producer Mitu Bhowmik Lange said, ‘India is completing 75 years of independence. We are glad that Kapil Dev and Abhishek Bachchan have come together to jointly hoist the Indian tricolor this year. It is a symbol of the friendship that our country shares with Australia and the coming together of these two celebs is the perfect amalgamation of cinema and cricket.
